AIMS
- To bring out the very best from each child according to ability and establish the academic foundations on which a secondary school can build.
- To develop in children those qualities that will help them to meet the demands they
will face throughout their lives.
- To help children appreciate the responsibilities they have towards themselves, to their parents or guardians, to their peers and to the greater community beyond Greenway.
To foster these aims we seek to find some activity at which a child can excel, be it at work, in the arts or in sport. A balanced curriculum provides opportunities for the successful development and use of children’s talents. The timetable is planned so that each day children will work not only at their books, computers and other resources in the class but will also take part in artistic and physical activity.
The children are encouraged to take as full a part as possible in school life, aiming to achieve the highest standards in whatever they undertake, and learning that even though this contribution might be modest, if it is honest and their best then it is worthwhile. This is reflected in the one school rule of "Always do your best".
The school is a community in which each member is expected to treat others as they would wish to be treated, where it is taught that all have a right to be happy and that, for this to be achieved, self-discipline and tolerance are essential. As members of such a community they learn to respect the strengths and weaknesses of other children and to appreciate the contribution that each makes in different ways.
The school serves the local community and meets and works together in an exciting and stimulating environment.
In achieving these aims the teacher plays a most important role, for the school provides not only a challenging environment, but also one which provides the security within which each and every child can grow in confidence. We also employ a number of support staff who work with the teachers for the benefit of all in the class/group.
Priding itself on its pastoral care, the school encourages a close rapport between parents and the staff.
In order to achieve all these ends we believe that it is important to continue to keep the environment attractive and stimulating. We seek to maintain the buildings and services to the highest standards, and wherever possible extend provision through new structures or alterations.
