ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE
Greenway is a Foundation Junior School that caters for children in the 7 to 11 age group. The
main feeder school is Trafalgar Infants. However, children also join Greenway from a number of other primary schools.
Governors aim to maintain a favourable teacher-pupil ratio, which is currently set at 24:1.
Our admission number agreed with the Department for Education and Skills is 120.
Children are admitted at age 7 without reference to ability and aptitude. Early admissions will always be considered for rising 7's of above average ability.
Where applications for admission exceed the number of places available, the following criteria
will be applied, in the order set out below, to decide which children to admit:
- Looked after children.
- Where the child has a brother a sister currently attending the school.
- Where there are medical grounds (supported by a Doctor’s Certificate) for admitting the child.
- Children with statements of special educational needs that name the school in the statement.
- Proximity of the child’s home to the school. Those living nearer being accorded the higher priority. This is determined by measuring straight lines from the home to the front entrance to the school building.
Parents who are considering sending their children to Greenway are encouraged to visit the school with their children to judge for themselves the ability of the school to provide for their needs.
SECONDARY TRANSFER
Children leave Greenway at the end of Year 6. The majority transfer to one of the following three Horsham secondary schools:
- Tanbridge House Mixed Comprehensive
- Forest Boys' Single Sex Boys' Comprehensive
- Millais Single Sex Girls' Comprehensive
The Local Authority deals with the process of secondary transfer. Further details of their current procedures are available from the school office.
