Children who are experiencing learning difficulties receive extra support delivered mainly in the classroom setting. The school prides itself on its ability to provide excellent facilities for children with special needs. We have experienced teachers dedicated to serving the needs of such pupils. We also have a strong body of teaching assistants who support the teachers in classrooms working with the children. This provision is in excess of the statutory provision for those children with official "statements of special needs".
All the children are encouraged to develop their individual talents and skills. The school supports and extends the more able child through focused teaching strategies and utilising appropriate resources.
Children will be streamed for some curriculum areas such as Mathematics, Language and Science. Specific after-school clubs and early morning starts also provide opportunities for the more able child to work productively with their peers.
PARENTS
Greenway values the contribution that parents and guardians make to the education of their children and invites them to enter into a home-school partnership contract.
Parents are invited to attend our various functions such as concerts, drama productions, exhibitions and sporting events.
A general newsletter is sent home on Wednesdays to inform parents of forthcoming events. The Governing Body meets at least once a term either as a whole body or in working parties.
Parent-teacher consultations are held regularly to ensure any worry or concern from either the school or the parent is tackled at the earliest opportunity. These meetings are scheduled fortnightly, throughout the school term, on Mondays from 3.30 to 4.30p.m. Parents are asked to make appointments for these. Teachers also make themselves available at other mutually convenient times.
PUPIL RECORDS
Parents receive an annual school report containing test results and comments on their child’s progress. Parents also have the opportunity to discuss test results and progress at parent-teacher consultations. Completed topic books, models and other finished tasks can be taken home with pride by the children.
