Wednesday June
21st
We start the day with a hearty breakfast. The children slept well last night with many having to be woken at 7:45 in time for breakfast at eight.
A surprise room inspection follows with some interesting results from the boys! Coach A leaves at about 9:45 to go the local hypermarche. Perhaps some of you might receive a gift if it has not been eaten by the time we get home! Coach B remains and we work on our diaries in the classroom. The coach returned and then the second group of children were taken to the hypermarche.
After lunch at the centre at 12:30 we prepared for our afternoon's sailing. Coach A were to sail first from 14:00 - 16:00 and then Coach B 16:00 - 18:00. The children wore a t shirt and shorts and were then kitted out with waterproof trousers, jacket and life jacket. The children went in groups of 10 with an adult and a French instructor with safety boat. A short instruction followed in franglais. We then towed the optimist sailing dinghies out into the bay and the children boarded in pairs. They then sailed up and down between marker buoys. At the end of the sessions the instructors commented how sensible and well behaved the children were.
The evening meal was served at 19:00 and following this a short time in the classroom diary writing. At 20:30 we took the children for a walk through the old part of town where the fort was which was once held by the English. It was again invaded this evening and held for a short time by us before we retreated into the main part of town. There was a musical event happening in ton this evening with 5 bands on the street playing various genres of music. As we walked through the town we stopped to listen to some of them. Back to centre for 22:00 and bed. A good nights sleep will prepare us for the walk to Mont St Michel tomorrow.
